Stages to Become a Nebraska Police Officer
Once the basic criteria has been fulfilled, you must go through different steps to become a Nebraska police officer or a state trooper.
Step 1: Complete the online application and supplemental questionnaire. If you meet the minimum requirements, your application will be further processed after screening and you will be notified to proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Qualify for the written exam. The Human Resource Division of the NSP will conduct a Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). This includes assessing the candidates’ ability in Reading, Mathematical Computation, Language, Vocabulary, Applied Mathematics, Spellings and Language Mechanics. You need to have a composite score of 11.0 or higher to pass.

Step 3: Pass the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
Step 4: Complete the Personal History Questionnaire.
Step 5: Undergo thorough background scrutiny.
Step 6:Appear before the Employment Review Board (ERB).
Step 7:Undergo a polygraph test, a psychological assessment and a medical exam.
Step 8:Appear for the final interview to be conducted by the Interview Board comprising of NSP Command Staff.
