Process of Becoming a West Virginia Police Officer

Once you meet the basic criteria, you need to go through the following process in order to become a police officer in West Virginia.

Step 1: Find out about all police departments in West Virginia where enrollments for new recruits are open and submit your application.

Step 2: After the completion of initial screening and background checks, you will be invited for a Physical Ability and Written Examination designed to assess whether or not you are suitable enough to wear the uniform.

Step 3: Once you pass the Physical Ability and Written Examination, you will be invited for an Oral Review by the Cadet Section Board. Step 6:After qualifying the Psychological Assessment, you must undergo a Medical and Physical Exam.This normally comprises of different laboratory tests such as urinalysis, blood sampling, electrocardiogram and detailed medical history checkup by a designated physician of the West Virginia State Police.

Step 7:Your Final Selection will be dependent on the successful completion of all the above-mentioned stages.

Eligibility Criteria for Becoming a Police Officer in West Virginia

You have to fulfill the following criteria in order to be eligible to become a West Virginia police officer.

  • You must be a legal US citizen by birth or through naturalization.
  • As per the West Virginia State Law, an applicant must be at least 21 and at most 39 before enlisting with the West Virginia State Police.
